Newark, New Jersey
Completed in 2008
Built as the New Jersey Devils Hockey Team’s home arena, this building, commissioned by the City of Newark and the Devils’ ownership, was built in downtown Newark during a time of great urban unrest. A hybrid cast concrete and steel structure was clad in prefabricated brick and metal panels with glass curtainwall infill. The arena is widely considered responsible for the rejuvenation of central Newark by, in significant part, linking the suburbs to a centralized arena accessible by public transportation. Design and management executed by Jess Walker at Morris Adjmi Architects.
