Ladies Mile Historic District, Manhattan

The Emory is a fourteen-story, twelve-unit, residential condominium building in Chelsea. The design and presentation subverted NYC’s “Sliver Law,” that would have prevented the construction of this tall and narrow building. Citing the “sawtooth nature” of the district, a variance to build substantially higher than either of the adjacent buildings was obtained. The two-story minimalist penthouse and roof terrace was custom designed for and with lifestyle guru Colin Cowie. Design and management executed by Jess Walker at Morris Adjmi Architects.
